Frequently asked questions

What is $35 an hour annually?

At 38 ordinary hours a week over 52 weeks, $35/hour is $69,160 a year in gross cash pay (35 × 38 × 52), before tax and before any overtime or allowances. With 12% employer super on top, the total package is about $77,459. Change the hours or weeks to match your situation.

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?

Divide the annual amount by the hours you work in a year. For a standard full-time year that’s 38 hours × 52 weeks = 1,976 hours, so a $69,160 salary is about $35/hour. If you work different hours or fewer paid weeks, set those above and the hourly rate updates.

Is super included in an hourly rate?

Usually not — an advertised hourly rate is typically your cash pay, with the 12% super guarantee paid on top. But a quoted salary package can be inclusive of super. This calculator lets you choose ‘super on top’, ‘package includes super’, or ‘not sure’, so the figures match how your pay is actually described.

What does casual loading mean?

Casual employees are usually paid a loading (commonly 25%) on top of the equivalent permanent base rate to compensate for not getting paid leave. The exact loading depends on your award or agreement. This tool converts whatever rate you enter; it doesn’t add or assume a casual loading or any award minimum.

How many hours and weeks should I use?

Full-time in Australia is often 38 ordinary hours a week, and 52 weeks covers the whole year (including paid leave for salaried staff). Those are just editable defaults — if you work part-time, casual, or only part of the year, change them so the conversion reflects your real pay.
